Ayan Farah Biography

Ayan Fara was born in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, in 1978. She studied Fine Arts at London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, followed by Painting at London’s Royal College of Art. Farah was shortlisted for the Dazed and Confused Emerging Artist award in 2012 and won the Culture Contact Award in 2007.

Farah’s works are defined by her interest in the provisional and the ephemeral. Her paintings often comprise unusual materials such as fabric, paper and sand. She uses light as a way to convey ideas about constant changing nature of things.

Farah’s solo shows include “Ayan Farah” at Vigo Gallery, London, in 2012 and “Flash Herring (Observatory for Northern Light)” at the University Centre in Svalbard, Norway, in 2009. She has also been involved in multiple group shows, including “The Figure in Carpet” at Bugada & Cargnel, Paris, in 2014; “PROXIMA” at the British American Museum, Mexico City in 2014; and “Wanderlust” at The Contemporary Art society, London, in 2013.
