Ayu's focus in her early career as a visual artist was to explore a sense of wonderment with childhood, hence viewers often recognised popular culture references in her paintings. As her body of work matures and expands to other medium, Ayu's attention to the senses began encapsulates issue of urban living as well as history and politics of Indonesia. For example, she was the art director for The River Monologue in 2007, a project by Erythina Baskoro about violence on women, supported by the renowned Teater Garasi Yogyakarta. She graduated from Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI Yogyakarta) in 2004 and has exhibited extensively in Indonesia and overseas. She received several accolades such as shortlisted in Top 5 Indonesian Art Awards by Philip Morris Company and YSRI in 2003, Best Artwork in Dies Natalis Indonesian Institute of the Arts in 2002.
