Cameron Platter completed his BA (FA) Hons. at the Michaelis School of Fine in Cape Town in 2001.

He has been called, amongst other things “the delinquent love child of Quentin Tarantino and Dr Seuss”, “the undisputed king of Afro-bling,” and “an agent provocateur with a sinister agenda”. Drawing on traditional craft and wood carving techniques, Platter combines African street culture with influences as diverse as Nigerian ‘porno’ films, township couture, and corrupt politicians. Using sculpture, video, drawing and print, Platter creates a tableau that is at once a sincere homage to historical themes and an ironical take on contemporary Africa.
