Manami Koike graduated in 2008 with and MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts. In 2011 she completed her Ph.D. in oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. Her paintings are regarded for their soft-focus, kimono-clad women that reflect western images of Japanese women in cinematic, historical or erotic imagination. Since then she has participated in group shows around Japan, including The Synchronicity of Photographs and Pictures, Bunkamura Gallery, Tokyo (2014); Walk in Asia, Ota Fine Arts, Tokyo (2012); and The 9th Nakamichi Exhibition, Fuchu Art Museum, Citizen Gallery, Tokyo (2010). In 2006 she was awarded the Taito Ward Mayer Prize.
