Kumazawa Mikiko's large-scale drawings are scenes of chaotic devestation and frentic engergy that brings together elements of the everyday with the extraordinary. Dense with the textures of contemporary life, her drawings are witty and surreal mash-ups that allow the eye to wander. Girls in skirts, graffit-covered post boxes, teddy bears and vending machines feature speak of the artist's local environment in Japan, while sly jokes are made via absurd comparisons between women and sushi. Kumazawa's intricate and highly detailed drawings have won her praise in the form of the "Hisho" Setagaya Art Award 2009, and recently her work was included at VOCA 2011, a show for emerging artists at the Ueno Royal Museum.
