Holme's interest in material interaction has led her to work with a wide variety of substances, ranging from the domestic to the industrial. Ranging from varnish, copper, and aluminium to more commonplace materials like paper, soap, and ink, Holme's materials become transformed through alchemical reactions that could place many of her installations in a science fiction narrative.
Read MoreHer 2017 work lomnambule uses rust, plastic foil, wood and other materials to confiscate the boundaries between the natural and man-made, fusing them into a futuristic singularity that challenges the recognisable form of familiar materials.
The variety of textures produced by these reactions often move Holme's materials from the two-dimensional plane into sculptural presentations that take over the installation space, transitioning seamlessly from two to three dimensions.
Her 2020 installation Lingering Contributions sees reflective surfaces arching against wooden floorboards, set against solid gem structures and transparent film-like, rocks that match the expansive water colour works on paper pressed against circular walls.
The interplay between this dimensionality could be read as visualising the passage of time and the transformation of objects between various states of being.
