Patrick Neu Biography

Patrick Neu was born in 1963. He lives and works in Wingen-sur-Moder near Strasbourg. He graduated in 1986 from the École Supérieure d'Art Décoratif in Strasbourg where he was Sarkis' student. At Sarkis' invitation in 2007, he took part in two exhibitions, one at the Louvre and the other at the Musée Bourdelle. In 1995, he was a resident at the Villa Médicis in Rome. He was then a resident at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto in 1999. Patrick Neu is a part of this constellation of artists who consider that the fundamental know how should lead to the achievement of a work. His artistic process is rooted in Art History as well as in the History of science and technology. His knowledge is lined by a deep understanding of the artistic gestures. His work interacts well with both his contemporaries and with the goldsmiths of Antiquity. Patrick Neu changes the traditional techniques and materials in order to create something new. In parallel of his experiments with materials, he devotes himself since the beginning of the 1990's to the watercolour on paper. Every Spring, during two weeks, he captures the flowering of the Iris.
