PHOEBE UNWIN

Eschewing physical source material, photographic or otherwise, her works attempt to conquer the blankness of the empty canvas without the safety of self-imposed limits of form or motif. She has spoken of the notion of depicting the way an object or a moment feels. Unwin is not seeking some ultimate goal in the practice, more excitedly questioning the length and breadth of reaction that can be elicited with pigment on surface.

Phoebe Unwin (b.1979, Cambridge, UK) lives in London. Recent exhibitions include Osmosis, Amanda Wilkinson Gallery (London, UK), Iris, Towner Art Gallery, (Eastbourne, UK) Colour Field, Maramotti Collection (Italy) and Cet Elixir, Moly-Sabata Foundation Albert Gleizes, (Sablons, France) and her work was included in an exhibition of British artists at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, China. Her work is included in many international private art collections and museums including Tate Gallery, (London, UK), Government Art Collection (UK), Arts Council of Great Britain, British Council Collection, Maramotti Collection, (Italy), Southampton City Gallery (UK), Yale Center for British Art (USA,) and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam, Netherlands).
