Now based on the northern coast of New South Wales, Robert Moore was born in Brisbane in 1964. In the early 1980s Moore attended the Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education studying under John Armstrong and graduating with a major in sculpture in 1985.

Exhibitions in which the artist's work has been curated include: Twenty Australian Artists, Galleria San Vidal, Venice, Queensland Art Gallery, and Benalla Regional Art Gallery (1990); Fourth Australian Sculpture Triennial, National Gallery of Victoria (1990); Art Irritates Life, a group exhibition of Mambo artists which toured Australia wide (1994); It's a Guitar Shaped World, Tamworth Regional Gallery (1995, 96, 97,98, 2000); People, Places, Pastimes: Challenging Perspectives of Ipswich, Ipswich Art Gallery (1999); On The Road - The Car in Australian Art, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne (2000); Octane: Celebrating 80 Years of the Royal Australian Air Force, Ipswich Art Gallery (2001); and Ready, Set, Go: Exhibition of Sporting Life and Australian Art, Ipswich Art Gallery (2001). In late 2005 Moore's paintings and drawings of the Clarence Valley landscape and its surrounds near his property was the subject of the exhibition Dog held at the Lismore Regional Gallery.
Since the late 1980s Moore has continued to contribute his distinctive imagery for use by the iconic Australian surf wear brand Mambo in its clothing range and other products. In 2001 the artist's work was seen in a series of giant flags flown in the forecourt of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney in a project shared between Mambo and the Country Women's Association of Victoria. In the same year Moore undertook a residency at the RAAF Base Amberley commissioned by Global Arts Link (Ipswich Art Gallery) as part of the RAAF's eighty year anniversary celebrations, the resulting works of which were curated in the exhibition Octane: Celebrating 80 Years of the Royal Australian Air Force, Ipswich Art Gallery.
Collections that hold the artist's work include the National Gallery of Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Museum of Brisbane, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Ipswich Art Gallery, Artspace Mackay, and the Holmes a Court Collection, Perth.
