Vincent Ward is an interdisciplinary visual artist who developed a unique aesthetic in ‘motion painting’ that won his team an Academy Award for special effects in 1999 for its use in the film What Dreams May Come.
Read MoreWard trained as a painter before studying animation and filmmaking, graduating with honours in Fine Arts from Canterbury University in 1980. Through painting he found his way into filmmaking. Ward says his films have been a starting point for fresh exploration in his new mixed media art work:
“Somewhere between the world of motion, film and painting I am currently working to find an alchemical marriage between these different media,”
Long-held fascinations with metamorphosis and immersive experience have inspired Ward to create a physically imposing series of images evoking otherworldly landscapes, transcendence, acute moments of loss and discovery; seeking elusive ‘transformational moments’ that connect with the human psyche.
