Yum’s photographs focus on the intimate yet banal scenes of everyday life that are often overlooked from the fringes. His photographs are rarely, if ever, altered. Whether from Europe or Korea, the locations are of little importance as the artist documents the peripheries of these sites. Yum focuses on the suburbs of these big cities, places not normally paid much attention to, as opposed to the overwhelming splendor of crowded buildings. The artist looks at our lives microscopically from the outside where most people do not concentrate their focus on. His photographs keep a certain distance from the object.
