Over the past decades, artists have voiced their concerns about our increasingly changing climate. The lasting effects of human intervention on nature are starkly or subtly represented in artworks across painting, photography, collage, installation, and video, among other mediums, through images of the aftermath of deforestation or endangered animal species.

Nature and the implications of its deterioration are the subjects of works by major international artists including John Akomfrah's video Purple (2017) and Olafur Eliasson's photographic and participatory works revolving around melting glacial ice dating back to the early 2000s.

In November 2021, artists from across the U.K. and the rest of the world urged for action in response to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26), which took place in Glasgow, through public installations, sculptures, and activations.
