The artist duo Sun Yuan and Peng Yu have remained among the most experimental and controversial artists working in China for over a decade. Building on an earlier body of work that employed materials like human fat and crematorium ash, the couple produced its best- known work “Old People’s Home” in 2006, featuring silicone likenesses of aged world leaders in automated wheelchairs. “A Story” belongs to a more recent strand of work that looks at military history; here a veteran of China’s 1979 border conflict with Vietnam recounts a gossipy story of a fellow soldier’s love affair.
