The exhibition Liquid Asia portrays a continent characterized by its waters – may it be a river, a port, a boat, or an island. For Duddell’s, MAP Office navigates this continent to explore potential specificities related to the unique relation the Asian territory with the sea, and to determine whether this dissemination of the land is directing a new reading of contemporary art in the region. A selection of twelve art works is forming an archipelago defined by a narrative, a statement or a viewpoint. Each video is an island. Together, they form a program where geography gives a specific reading of the place through the eyes of the artists.
From Japan to India, passing through Hong Kong and Singapore, the Cook Island or looking at Asia from Venice Beach (Los Angeles), new routes are to be established. Finally, echoing the specific island condition of Hong Kong, Liquid Asia ricochets in the water of Victoria Harbor extending the meaning of the video program.
