Summer Love was first held in the former SongEun ArtSpace in 2015 and is a group exhibition of young promising artists we support annually. To coincide with Frieze, we will present in its fourth series with all new works from 13 young Korean artists as well as 50 new works by prominent Korean artist Lee, Kun Yong as well as Kwon, Aram the 21st recipient of the prestigious SONGEUN Art Award. As a celebration of our first anniversary, we would like to also include a special Swiss artist project.
Though this is a group exhibition, there is no curatorial concept theme in how these artists were selected but rather by their talent. Hence, we choose a "neutral" title that would encompass the spirit of the young contemporary art scene here. Summer Love embodies the feeling and ideal of being young, passionate and immersed in an experience/memory that is eternal. The title also implies a love that lingers in each other's heart even long after separation, succeeding many years of devotion and commitment. This can be comparable to artists who interact and build relationships within an "exhibition." All of the associated time and different relationships lay dormant as a powerful force that continues to drive the present with the time of the past, and at once are confronted with the next exhibition to prepare for the time of the future. This group exhibition in its various forms of interpretations, media and medium has one strong underlying connection in that it speaks of the artist's passionate commitment to the production of their works and further development of their artistic concepts which is a small insight into where the emerging artists stand today.
