Designed by the Iranian architect Kamran Diba and inaugurated in 1977, the striking concrete modernist building of the museum is regarded an example of contemporary art itself. The museum consists of nine galleries, three of which are dedicated to paintings by international artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, René Magritte, Claude Monet, Andy Warhol and many more from the museum's permanent collection. Temporary exhibitions are held in the other six galleries throughout the year
TMoCA also comprises a cinemateque, a library, a coffee shop, book shop and a photography workshop.
