Candice Lin's solo exhibition Pigs and Poison (planned for 21 March to 24 May 2020) has been rescheduled to 2021 due to the temporary lockdown in China earlier this year.
One of Lin's videos, Toxic Semiotics, will be accessible in full length on Times Museum's website for two months.
Toxic Semiotics is a video that weaves together a semi-fictionalised story about chemical waste being transported globally. In this story that set in the future, the narrator shifts between virus, fungus, and demon, and sometimes the story is told from a human/the artist's perspective, to think about our porous and entangled existence in a polluted and toxic world. The video connects the toxic, militarised landscape of California and its visual similarity to the 'other Mediterranean' landscape (Lebanon, in this case), which brings forward the history of bioprospecting and militariation.
