Utilising gaps between exhibitions, VT Artsalon starts a micro-exhibition submission call project for experimental young creators since 2021. A Trader's Story, the beginning show in this project, is a deep presentation by artist Chen Pin-hua with his latest works.
A Trader's Story is a trilogy containing three real trading statements: 'Turnover 100 million', 'Trading 10000 Lots', and '30000 Bull'. The artist became a trader, completed pure speculation bets in real financial markets, and documented the trades in recent years, in order to incorporate trade into his own language. The artist suffered all kinds of struggles, conjectures, depressions, and ended in a total failure as being short squeezed. Through the works, you might just see the numbers, but you might also glimpse the artist's curiosity, lust, sorrow, excitement, horror, sleepless nights, overtrading addiction, thirst for knowledge, antisocial personality, or altruism ideology.
The show also exhibits the artists' ongoing series '-1'. The artist start painting and selling the work with a price of '-1', and at the same time publishing the digital reproduction of the paintings on internet with CC0 license. Chen Pin-hua started his experiments with copyright since his 2016 project Time Travel.
Welcome to visit VT Artsalon during 17–24 July 2021 for Chen Pin-hua's A Trader's Story exhibition and check the reality and absurdness of the financial market and contemporary capitalistic society through the artist's life.
