ARARIO GALLERY will participate in 'Art Jakarta 2023,' taking place at JIExpo Kemayoran in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 17 to 19 November 2023. Returning to Art Jakarta for the first time in 4 years since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, ARARIO GALLERY will introduce the works of 8 represented artists from various Asian countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and South Korea, to Southeast Asian collectors.
ARARIO GALLERY, which has maintained close relationships with contemporary Southeast Asian artists, will be presenting the 3 Southeast Asian artists including the leading Indonesian artist Eko NUGROHO (b. 1977, Indonesia) in the 'Gallery Section' (Booth A2) of Art Jakarta 2023. NUGROHO has held solo exhibitions at renowned institutions including the Asia Society in New York, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, and the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris.
Concurrently, Eko NUGROHO's separate solo show in the 'Spot Section' (Booth P1) will unveil his new installation works, capturing the audience's attention. This section focuses on large-scale installations, sculptures, and new media art, offering a deep dive into the artists' practices.
Meanwhile, the 'Project Next Earth' series (2022) by Geraldine JAVIER (b. 1970, Philippines) will be displayed at the 'Gallery Section' (Booth A2). This painting series shows the artist's sincere engagement with environmental themes, translating her contemplation of nature into her picture screen.
At Booth A2 in the 'Gallery Section,' the sculpture pieces of GWON Osang (b. 1974, Korea) will be presented. He is known for pioneering the genre of 'photo-sculpture,' where three-dimensional sculptural objects are constructed from two-dimensional photographs. Among the artist's oeuvre that explores the ontology of sculpture, the series 'Deodorant Type' and 'Relief' will be shown at Art Jakarta 2023. Also presented at the booth are the paintings of LEE Jinju (b. 1980, Korea), who has recently gained significant attention in the art world. This year, she has participated in numerous exhibitions at prestigious institutions worldwide, including Marres, House of Contemporary Culture (Maastricht, Netherlands), SongEun (Seoul, Korea), White Cube Seoul (Seoul, Korea), ARARIO MUSEUM (Jeju, Korea), and more.
ARARIO GALLERY will also focus on highlighting the emerging artists engaged with the gallery. The works of SIM Raejung (b. 1983, Korea), featured in SongEun's recent group exhibition Panorama (2023), portray the throngs of contemporary humanity in a simplified manner, while simultaneously weaving in metaphorical reflections on language, relationships, and life's philosophical quandaries. NOH Sangho (b. 1986, Korea) endeavours to internalise the attributes of the virtual world by using his own body in the act of painting. In doing so, he establishes a personal philosophy to navigate the flood of images characteristic of the digital age. His drawings and paintings will be presented at the booth. Also to be displayed are the works of LEE Jihyun (b. 1979, Korea), who actively works in both the US and Korea, is set to participate in a joint exhibition at the New Orleans Foundation Art Gallery (New Haven, US) this coming November.
