Perrotin is delighted to dedicate a solo booth at Westbund 2021 to Guadalajara-based Mexican artist Gabriel Rico, concurrent to his inaugural solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in San Diego.
For the past decade, Gabriel Rico has applied his passion for ontology to his unique sculptures, installations and assemblages, which he uses to narrate an intricate story of the human experience. Rico's pieces draw extensively from his identity as a collector of 'lost and found' objects, a formative hobby he discovered as a child. His skills with composition come from his training as an architect, combining various materials to create a visually diverse structure. He uses collection and the tendency to affix emotional connections to objects to inspire viewers to create their own story, interpreting objects both man-made and natural.
