The Armory Show and the Frieze Art Fair in New York are both recognised as being major international events for the presentation of contemporary art for sale from the world's leading galleries. Other important art fairs in the USA include those in Chicago, Los Angeles and Toronto.

In bringing together contemporary artworks from across a region and beyond to one space, there is a resultant energy and commercial focus. New art fairs have emerged in Shanghai and Taipei reflecting the growing interest in contemporary art in those cities.

The most prestigious art fair in Europe is Art Basel in Basel. The India Art Fair has grown in stature and is becoming a must on the international calendar.

The Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero art fairs are both noted for their breadth of galleries participating from the huge scope of the contemporary art world of Latin America. Smaller fairs have popped up in Santiago and Bogota which are worth attention.
