Galería Hilario Galguera Madrid is pleased to present the exhibition 'El día que nos volvimos a encontrar' (The day we met again) by renowned Mexican artist Bosco Sodi. The exhibition, composed of ten paintings of identical size (65 cm x 81 cm), plunges into the depth of darkness and aesthetic search that characterises Sodi's work.
The exhibition is a continuation of the unique artistic exploration of Bosco Sodi, who has left an indelible mark on the international contemporary art scene. The series of black paintings, painted with the artist's masterful personal technique, pays abstract homage to On Kawara, incorporating a stripe in the middle of each work. The choice to make one painting per day adds an element of daily gesture, symbolising the constant variation and change in our lives.
In Sodi's own words: The stripe becomes the gesture that marks the day; this gesture, by nature, is going to be unique, even if I try to make it the same as the previous one. In a sense, a metaphor for how change is a constant in our lives.
The exhibition explores the relationship between art, imperfection and beauty, following the Wabi-Sabi aesthetic that Bosco Sodi has cultivated throughout his career. The series of black paintings invites viewers to immerse themselves in a space-time of concentration, recalling Tanizaki and his In Praise of the Shadow.
El día que nos volvimos a encontrar is not only an artistic expression, but also a profound reflection on the ephemeral nature of existence and the search for beauty in imperfection. Bosco Sodi, an admirer of art informel artists such as Antoni Tàpies and Jannis Kounellis, has created a body of work that transcends modernist orthodoxy and immerses itself in a poetics of the world, inviting serene contemplation.
The Hilario Galguera gallery in Madrid thus becomes the stage where darkness, texture and emotion intertwine to offer a poetic vision of the world according to Sodi.
The exhibition will be open to the public at Galería Hilario Galguera Madrid from March 5 through May 25, 2024.
