Muntean/Rosenblum's work captures the essence of their collaborative process and introduces Singaporean art enthusiasts to their captivating blend of contrasting elements. Though Muntean/Rosenblum work in a variety of media, their practice stems from painting. They have been working in partnership since 1992 and have developed a unique joint signature style. Somehow, we expect the intimate medium of drawing to be characteristic of the individual hand of the artist, yet here the two hands are indistinguishable. Collectively these striking works speak of the way in which longing for individual identity is oHen expressed through generic codes of fashion and behaviour promoted through the mass media. Ultimately the meaning of the works can never be pinned out, their ambiguity echoing the dilemmas of contemporary society.
The works of Muntean/Rosenblum are interna8onally appreciated and part of important private and institutional collections like Neue Galerie, Graz: Zabludowicz Collection, London, New York; MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemoráneo de Castilla y Léon, Léon, Spain: Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv, Israel: Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, Germany: Albertina, Vienna, Austria: MoMA, Museum of Modern Art, New York. From May 5th to October 27th, 2024, the Städel Museum, Frankfurt will dedicate a solo exhibition titled 'Mirror of Thoughts' to Muntean/Rosenblum.
