Collaboration since 1992, live and work in Vienna, Austria.
The Austrian-Israeli artist duo Muntean/Rosenblum became internationally known for their socially critical pictures with mostly young protagonists, in which classical, figurative painting or drawing is combined with text captions. Composed like posters and collages, the works often depict lost or lonely teenagers and young adults who appear bored, lonely or at a loss. In their paintings, drawings, performances or video works, Muntean/Rosenblum deal intensively with pathos formulas from art history and with the questioning of how emotions and affects expressed in this way are articulated and interpreted differently in different epochs.
The works of Muntean/Rosenblum are internationally appreciated and part of important private and institutional collections like Neue Galerie, Graz: Zabludowicz Collection, London, New York; MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemoráneo de Castilla y Léon, Léon, Spain: Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Tel Aviv, Israel: Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf, Germany: Albertina, Vienna, Austria: MoMA, Museum of Modern Art, New York. From May 5th to October 27th, 2024, the Städel Museum, Frankfurt will dedicate a solo exhibition titled 'Mirror of Thoughts' to Muntean/Rosenblum.
