This catalogue documents Pat Steir's most recent series of paintings, titled 'Kairos', which were exhibited at Lévy Gorvy's New York gallery in 2017. These immersive works evolved out of Steir's seminal 'Waterfall' series, a body of work that explores painting's potential to 'express itself as something non-objective,' in the artist's words. The volume offers an intimate introduction to the 'Kairos' works and includes a conversation between Steir and Sylvère Lotringer, the founder of Semiotext(e), as well as three poems that Steir published in the Schizo-Culture issue of the magazine; new poetry by Anne Waldman; an essay by art historian and curator Courtney J. Martin; a detailed chronology illustrated by rarely seen archival images; and installation photographs of the exhibition in both its New York and London iterations.
