Akahane graduated from the Painting Department of Musashino Art University, College of Art and Design in 2008. He is known for his colorful oil paintings and drawings that include the use of organic materials, such as plants. In his recent works, Akahane renders worlds that address the nature and contradictions of fundamental human desire through symbols of decomposition and fermentation, i.e., plants, fungi, insects, animals, and feces. Humorous yet critical, his works, in many cases, literally disassemble, morph, and reconstruct traditional depictions of reality.
