Born in Auckland, 1966, of mixed Hungarian and Tongan heritage, Julian has exhibited extensively in New Zealand and Australia since 1990. In 2010, Hooper’s work was shown at the Flinders University City Gallery, in Apart we are together, Adelaide International, 2010 curated by Victoria Lynn. Hooper was also included in the Queensland Art Gallery’s Unnerved: The New Zealand Project.
