Alex Da Corte Reveals Vivid Parallel Realities at Louisiana Museum

19 August 2022

Denmark's Louisiana Museum introduces the first in-depth and wonderfully playful presentation of Alex Da Corte's works to Europe.

In a show that 'splices with our sour existential satire on life', the Venezuelan-American artist's practice references popular culture and teases viewers with iconic cartoon characters like the Pink Panther and Popeye.

Commenting on the absurdities of late capitalism, Da Corte's Pop art-informed installations, videos, and paintings grow out of a distinctly American art and cultural tradition. His works consider the different ways our identity connects to consumer culture by giving a visual platform to the various experiences or objects we treasure, gift or dispose of.

Mr Remember features a variety of old and new work, including site-specific installations that completely transform the gallery space into a brightly coloured and vividly lit parallel reality. The exhibition's immersive environment sets a stage for Da Corte's appropriated characters to narrate new stories that are removed from their original histories.

Born in 1980, Da Corte studied his BFA at the University of Fine Arts Philadelphia and his MA at the Yale University School of Art. His work has been included in exhibitions at the Venice Biennale in 2019 and the 57th Carnegie International in Pittsburgh.

Other notable exhibitions include displays at the Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia.
