This magnificent Diptych, the center point and title piece of Azuka Muoh’s second solo reflects symbols, complexities and commentary on issues the artist grapples with. The Sunrise rice bag is laden with meaning – Nigeria is known to import some of the poorest quality rice in the world and as a staple food for many, it is a cruel reminder of how the poor are locked into a cycle of poverty. To add insult to injury, unscrupulous vendors are known to siphon off rice and resell it to bolster their profits, explains Muoh.
