On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the death of Joan Miró (1893-1983) and the centenary of the birth of Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012), we are pleased to announce that we are preparing an exhibition that will bring the work of these two artists into dialogue for the first time in Paris and Barcelona.
Joan Miró and Antoni Tàpies, two of the great artists of the twentieth century, met in 1949 when they began a friendship and an affinity that was enriched over time through the artistic and intellectual exchange that both maintained until the end.
This led to the idea of organizing an exhibition that will focus on the analysis of the artistic relationship and friendship between these two artists. The exhibition will be curated by Carles Guerra, former director of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies 2015-2020, who has held multiple positions such as director of La Virreina Image Center, director of the Primavera Fotogràfica de Catalunya and curator of MACBA. His experience makes him a key figure in developing a historiographically rigorous narrative. The curatorial and museographic proposal will be composed of works of different formats and artistic periods, which will emphasize the influences that both had in their careers.
