SETAREH is pleased to present Studio Views, a new online series displaying recent works of artists represented by the gallery. This Viewing Room highlights the latest works by Bettina Marx.
Bettina Marx's work, often capturing real places, expands across paintings, ink drawings as well as wood pieces that the artist found and then painted. Using different influences like set pieces, she transfers silhouettes, surfaces and textures into works reminiscent of natural structures. The starting point for the works shown in the ORV are light effects on walls that have been recorded as drawings and transformed into paintings.
Marx paints these syntheses and recontextualizations of optical impressions and memories on MDF boxes. The colour intensity and especially the almost plastic materiality of her paintings make them sensually perceptible works of art.
With fragments and details of experienced situations Marx creates a new imagery of a very personal sensibility, full of structural sensitive harmony and highly differentiated colorfulness.
The artist uses different procedures, techniques and materials, like Indian ink and acrylic paint which allows her work to achieve a very unique pictorial autonomy.
Her painting Orag refers to the exterior world but reconstructs its perception. Bettina Marx's idiosyncratric signature transposes the landscapes she has seen or the emotions she has experienced into unique compositions.
Colours and forms of nature are delicately preserved. This resemblance is so subtle that makes the viewer's eye wander through all its details, textures and chromatic changes. Again and again, Marx's works encourage the observer to experience the different levels of transcription that she connects to natural elements.
