Exhibition Archive : Dong-geun Lee
LEE Dong-geun, who has consistently experimented with the possibility of painting, attempts a new form that can exist as a three-dimensional structure by expanding the traditional methodology of flat materials and techniques in Mutant, another surface at Space Willing N Dealing, Seoul (3–19 August 2022).
Recently, Lee has been particularly interested in the subject of science that studies and identifies unknown areas. Among them, he is inspired by life sciences and environmental areas such as protein structure, DNA, RNA, and AI. The artist creates many visual and tactile senses by intentionally combining, arranging, and fusing various materials such as paints, objects, and resins. In the process of processing, various materials change shapely and acquire a sense of space.
LEE Dong-geun's painting changes shape by folding, spreading, and connecting the surface of the painting. The conversation that was created at the beginning of this process goes through many processes and is reconstructed into unexpected forms. A new form of painting formed roughly as coincidence and intention collide is an act of acquiring LEE Dong-geun's unique methodology, revealing the traces.
