Dongwan Kook (b.1979) works on the unconsciousness and the way reaching it with drawing, painting, sculpture, moving images, and books. Whilst archiving dreams since 2007, the artist has created the moment when private dreams become public. In particular, her drawing 'Hoigwang-Banjo' conceived from Buddhism is a tool to find herself living the topic. Shifting the disciplined gaze to the social phenomena that pierce her life, the dreamer pays attention to the connection between the individual and the society. Kook held solo exhibitions at Gallery FACTORY (2011), Gallery Chosun (2016), Gallery SU (2018). She got awarded as Public Art New Hero in 2017 and has been invited as an Artist-in-Residence at MMCA residency Changdong (2020), Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (2016-2018), and Glenfiddich AIR (2012) in Scotland.
