Gareth Nyandoro was born in Bikita, Zimbabwe in 1982. He obtained a National Diploma in Fine Art from Harare Polytechnic in 2003 before going on to further his studies in Creative Arts and Design at Chinhoyi University of Technology, Zimbabwe, in 2008. In 2014 and 2015, Nyandoro was a resident artist at the Rijksakedemie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Nyandoro's solo exhibition Ruwa recently opened at Tiwani Contemporary in London, UK in 2020. In 2019 Nyandoro presented his solo exhibition titled JUGGLING SKILLS, at SMAC Gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa. The exhibition coincides with the launch of the first publication dedicated to the his body of works. In 2018, Nyandoro's solo show, ...READ ALL ABOUT, opened at the Van Doreen Waxter Gallery in New York, USA; and his work was included in the group exhibition, Five Bhobh: Painting at the End of an Era at Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town, South Africa. Nyandoro also exhibited alongside Marlene Dumas, William Kentridge, Moshekwa Langa and Bahia Shebab in the group exhibition, Drawing Africa On The Map at the Quetzal Art Centre, Vidigueira, Portugal. Most recently, Nyandoro has been chosen to exhibit alongside artist, Alexandra Karakashian, at the 13th edition of Art Dubai in Dubai, UAE with SMAC Gallery.
Solo exhibitions include: Stall(s) of Fame, at the Palais de Tokyo, in Paris, France in 2017; IPA PO-IPAPO at SMAC Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa; Gareth Nyandoro at Art Brussels in Belgium and Paper Cutin London, UK, all in 2016; Presentatie Gareth Nyandoro in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2015 and Weaving Life in Harare, Zimbabwe in 2013. During 2015, Nyandoro was one of three artists selected to represent the Zimbabwean Pavilion in a travelling exhibition titled Pixels of Ubuntu/ Unhu, curated by Raphael Chikukwa, for the 56th Venice Biennale in Italy, travelling further to the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare, Zimbabwe and the Association for Visual Arts (AVA) Gallery, in Cape Town, South Africa in 2016. In 2015, Nyandoro took part in Round – Tripping: Gareth Nyandoro and Richard Parry at Narrative Projects in London, UK; TREK: Following Journeys at SMAC Gallery in Cape Town and Group Exhibition in Cologne, Germany. Earlier group exhibitions include; Zamboni for the Moose at Galerie Juliètte Jongma in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 2014 and Live n Direct at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare in 2010. Nyandoro also featured in Colour Africa in Munich, Germany in 2011 and Expressions of Zimbabwe at the Université d'Aignon, France in 2008.
