Akihiro Higuchi graduated from sculpture at Tokyo Zoukei University and earned a master’s degree at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He moved to Germany to study in the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and currently lives and works in Tokyo.
Akihiro starts working on a piece even before considering what the message in the piece might be. The material or motif that he uses comes to him naturally and he feels the motif already has a message itself even before he begins. His work portrays the excesses of human desire with humor and irony using moth specimens, taxidermy animal forms and damaged statues etc. as important component.
