Jiang Lining, born in Shanghai in 1993, graduated from East China Normal University with a Bachelor’sdegree in 2016 and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) with a Master’s degree in 2018. Hecurrently works and lives in Shanghai.
Jiang’s work draws on the gaze, capturing the space of everyday experience, constantly stripping, hiding, and recreating the neglected edges and emotions in the process of viewing. Transforming a restrained andcryptical image result, in an attempt to visualise uncertain subtle states and emotions. Jiang responds tothe purity of minimalism in his painting style. It combines the light perception of the screen with colourfield painting, intending to rebel against the hurried rhythm and straightforward expressions in this era, providing the viewer with a meditation space that wanders between figuration and abstraction.
