Artist Lee So-Yeun continues to paint self portraits from the motif of herself. With enlarged glabellus, sharpened jaws, down-sized nose and eyes, the unreadable expression constructs an unfamiliar atmosphere. Whereas the clothes that she wears, the accessories and props that appear in her work are very ordinary and familiar. The backgrounds that appear in her work are actual places and ordeals that the artist herself has experienced. The figure amidst the background are supposedly mediums to show her thoughts and feelings at the time.The situations that were expressed this way take many forms, and are the only lead for the viewers to enter the piece.

From Germany, she receives the Emprize fine art award, hosted from Düsseldorf’s NRW-Forum at 2004, and started getting attention from the German artscene. At 2005, Ravensburg, she become associated with the Columbus Art Foundation and receives the honor of receiving the Youth artist’s support. At 2006, Lee So-Yeun writes an exclusive contract with Düsseldorf’s Conrad Gallery, further allowing her to spread the words of her works in international art fairs. Her works were exhibited in many well-known art fairs such as; Cologne Art Colony (Germany), Show off (Paris, France), ARCO (Madrid, Spain), Scope (New York, USA) and PULSE (USA), which affirmed her stance in the art world. Since then, she has continued to gain recognition among the art scene by exhibiting at places like; Gallery Terra Tokyo and the Hong Kong Art Basel art fair. Lee So-Yeun’s works are currently in the possessions of Tokyo’s CB collection, Germany’s Aschenbach Art Consulting, Columbus Art Foundation, Spain’s t.VIS.t Communication, and many other personal collectors.
