Park Eun Sun Biography

He uses marble in a distinctive way harmonizing the accidental effects of natural energy with a perfect balance and order, and his works have been well appreciated in the European art world as “Oriental abstract sculptures,” distinct from those of Western modernism.

Park’s abstract sculptures are mainly composed of alternating stripes in two colors. While many Western marble sculptors left the natural volume of the material as it is, he stacks thin plates in two different colors cut by his thorough design and calculation to create a pictorial space with emphasized lines and colors.

In his works, the tension between the roughly destroyed stones and the elaborately carved ones conveys the message of imperfect essence of human and nature in a perfect composition. The natural and artificial beauty and scientific rigor coexist in his work, oscillating between the boundaries of the Oriental and Western abstraction.

In 2007, he had an honor to be invited to an annual art festival in Pietrasanta where one sculptor is selected to hold his solo show. Since then, he has participated a host of exhibitions and received prestigious awards including the 21st Sun Art Award in 2009, Invitational Exhibition of Forte dei Marmi City, Italy in 2012, City Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in Lugano, Switzerland in 2013, City Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition in La Baule, France in 2014, Pomegranate Medal of the National Merit for the 9th World Korean Day in 2015, Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition at Pisa International Airport from 2015 to 2017, and solo exhibition at Pitti Palace in Florence in 2016. His works are in the collections of companies and art museums in Italy, the United States, and Korea. In 2021, his latest exhibition was held at the beach club of the legendary tenor, Andrea Bocelli.
