Yu Hui studied Gongbi painting from her father Yu Jigao, who is a famous bird & flower painter. In 1983, she received a BA degree from the Jiangsu Traditional Chinese Painting Institute, and in 2006, graduated from the Academic Research department at Art School of Peking University, Beijing, China. Yu’s works, consisting of birds and flowers, inherit the Song Dynasty Gongbi paintings’ polished style. She succeeds in combining traditional and modern Gongbi styles through her use of pastel colors, reflecting the Chinese cultural love and respect for nature.
