A major survey of works by Damien Hirst will open at the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) on 26 October 2023.
The exhibition, titled The Weight of Things, will include works from some of Hirst's best known series, including formaldehyde sculptures, 'Spin Paintings', 'Medicine Cabinets', 'Cherry Blossoms', and butterfly paintings stretching back over the past 40 years.
Hirst said he was happy and excited to 'have the opportunity to show many of my earlier works through to my later series like works from 'Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable'.
The 'Treasures' series, which presents sculptures from a fictional ancient shipwreck, was first exhibited in 2017 at Punta della Dogana and Palazzo Grassi in Venice.
Hirst said a giant outdoor spot painting would also be visible from all over the city.
'Damien Hirst is one of the world's most influential artists, his work has transformed the contemporary art world and ignited the imagination of a generation,' said Christian Utz, Founder of MUCA. —[O]
