In this exhibition, Alice Wormald presents a series of paintings depicting abstracted three-dimensional models, where each piece operates as a meticulously crafted tableau. The works depict handmade constructions of cut and folded coloured paper and card, with forms and silhouettes recurring across their surfaces. Among these assemblages are found images of rocks, trees, vegetation, and objects including ribbons and trim.
For this exhibition, Wormald's process involves combining images, objects, paper and card to create intricate pop-up sculptures. She emphasises layering, the interplay of colour, and cutting and folding techniques to capture moments of formal resonance. The structures that she creates inspire Wormald's painted compositions, serving as physical analogs which are transformed into carefully choreographed imagery. Building harmonies between layers, fissures and pictorial depth, the works become dynamic abstract scenes that align with her continued interest in form, perception, and the complexities of image-making.
