'In making these works I am pursuing content within painting that does not escape the object itself, but instead meaning is found within and de ned by a series of complex visual and abstract relationships. In this way it is hoped that the pictures offer an idiosyncratic experience through a re ned visual & almost tactile engagement.
Made from a strictly improvised basis, the paintings present themselves as intersecting oscillations of colour, form, rhythm and touch. They try to maintain an openness with an emphasis on experimentation and the transformation of the material qualities inherent to oil paint.
This transformation is at times achieved by the cutting up and subsequent re- assemblage of paintings by stitching them back together. This action brings into question the role of wholeness within abstract space, as well as inviting unexpected and at times awkward visual relationships.'
