Gallery 9 is delighted to present Peter Alwast's exhibition Recent Works, open online and in the gallery from 20 April to 14 May.

Opening reception with Peter Alwast in attendance will be held on Saturday 23 April from 2 - 5 pm.

Peter Alwast's latest body of work created over the last three years includes paintings and collages that explore the contradictions and tensions of recent times. The exhibition continues an ongoing interest in the generative relationship between abstraction and imagery, where there is at once a play with the potential of material forms and a filtering of collective events.

Paintings such as The Habits, Assembly or After the Deluge depict communal gatherings driven by yearnings for togetherness, intimacy or populist fuelled frenzy, while other works combine the slowness of physical matter with the speed of technologically generated imagery. At the core of these works is the potential for something new or unexpected to occur making palpable the sense of beauty, dread and loss tied to the contemporary condition.
