Tolarno Galleries is pleased to present Gorgeous, an exhibition of three sculptural works by UK-born, Melbourne-based artist Hannah Gartside.
Utilising found fabrics to create sculpture and installations that embody feelings of affection, desire, longing and repression, Gartside is receiving significant national attention for her innovative and multidisciplinary approach.
"I think of my art practice as a lover, one that is consistent, generous, surprising and true," says Gartside, who has qualifications in both visual arts and fashion design. "I want to share the pleasure and delight that I feel in making art, and in art being a form of communication and connection."
Installed in Gallery 2, the works – two static, one kinetic – reconfigure the space as a zone of the senses, where sight is enhanced by sound, smell and touch.
Hannah Gartside has been curated into more than 30 group exhibitions including Primavera 2021: Young Australian Artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art, NSW and Performing Textiles at the Ian Potter Museum of Art, Vic in 2019.
Gartside's kinetic sculptural installation Forest summons (for Lilith) 2022-23 is currently on display in Melbourne Now 2023 at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Gorgeous runs until 6 May 2023.
