Yi Joungmin works are focusing on the relationship between communities and individuals, between communication systems in contemporary society. Yi describes her work as a walk (both physically and mentally) in the city for finding an authentic form of life and language.
Through her profound engagement for social realities as a responsible individual, she discovers and collects elements that trigger her emotions which get a sophisticatedly organised form. This form can be realised in the moment of recognition of others through empathy and participation. In her painting these emotional processes are showed through images of the organic world including motifs such as biological transformations, landscapes, plant cells or food produced by the contemporary society.
The paintings presented in this exhibition, like landscapes, plants, architecturally shaped monumental fancy cakes or strange still-life-like, somewhat improbable arrangements of objects, show the melting process of rigid systems, the collapse of transparent human conditions and the destabilisation of mental structures.
