Athina Ioannou's work is centred on pictorial practices that derive in site-specific installations, emphasised by transparencies and the use of local materials such as local textiles, as well as the act of prioritising certain spaces or architectural elements over others. Ioannou relies on the use of geometric forms, such as the triangle, as well as on the repetition of rhythmic and precise gestural strokes made with charcoal. The artist frequently dips the canvases in oil, which not only fixes the pigment and highlights the colours, but also the artist often dips the canvases in oil, which not only fixes the pigment and highlights the colours, but also achieves a certain transparency that unites the support, the colour and the space in a single object, integrating the viewer's gaze.
