ATHINA IOANNOU
Athina Ioannou’s work is centred on pictorial practices that derive in site-specific installations, emphasised by transparencies and the use of local materials such as local textiles, as well as the act of prioritising certain spaces or architectural elements over others. Ioannou relies on the use of geometric forms, such as the triangle, as well as on the repetition of rhythmic and precise gestural strokes made with charcoal. Athina Ioannou studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome under Jannis Kounellis, David Rabinowich and Daniel Buren. She has had solo exhibitions at venues such as Espace d’art Contemporain HEC, Paris, France (2007) and Galerie Hopstreet, Ghent, Belgium (2016) and participated in group exhibitions around the world including MRAC Musée Régional D’Art Contemporain Languedoc-Roussillon, Sérignan, France (2017) andHEC Contemporary Art Space, Paris France (2015). His works are in the collections of several museums including the MMCA Macedonian Muséum d’Art Contemporain, Thessaloniki, Greece and MRAC Musée Régional d’Art Contemporain in Languedoc-Roussillon, France; as well as private collections such as the Murderme Collection. In 2013 Ioannou was awarded the Jubiläums Stiftung der Sparkasse Neuss, Germany.
