Jonny Negron was born in 1985 in Carolina, Puerto Rico. He lives and works in Los Angeles (US). Obsessed with drawing as a kid, he has imbibed everything in his work — from video games, comic books and artists such us Mark Rothko, Robert Crumb and Yuichi Yokoyama. In recent years, his painting has become a stylistic fusion of alternative comics and Japanese woodblock printing, casting moments of solace for the world of characters he has created. Jonny Negron might be a California Light and Space artist. Balancing nuances of darkness and relief, Negron succeeds in dissecting the complexities of one's life and the depths of ecstatic, quasi-religious nightlife experiences. Saturated with unnatural red, blue, and purple light, as though emitted from LEDs, Negron's color stories mold one's experience with his paintings, yet details flood each work, tugging back to the sense of reality. Depicting scenes that appear to be on another planet, his practice translates a new relationship with both our digital and sexual worlds.
