Romina De Novellis Biography

Romina de Novellis is an Italian performer, living in Paris since 2008.After several years dedicated to dance and theatre, she lands in the performing art scene cutting off both speech and choreography from her artistic research, deciding to focus on the language of gestures, overall replacing the body in an urban environment.

Her body is the center of her questioning, it is both the object of her work and the subject of her research. She creates living pictures to share with the audience through her body. Her performances are very long and her gesture is repetitive. Traces of her work are collected as photos and videos.

In 1999, Romina De Novellis graduated from the Royal Academy of Dance of London. In 2008 she obtained a Master Degree and continued her studies at the DAMS of the University of Rome 3. In Paris, she studies anthropology (PhD) at the EHESS. Recent performances include: Materiche & VIDEO, a group show with video projections at the Museum M9, Mestre (2020); #chezmaddalena, video-projections during the quarantine period in Paris (2020); Inferno at Kulturzentrum Faust, Hannover (2019); FELICIT-À at Ca' Pesaro, Venice (2018); HOPSCOTCH in Palermo (2018); recto/verso #2 at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris (2018); Gradiva curated by Léa Bismuth, Pompeii, Italy (2017); La Gabbia Opening VIP, Alberta Pane Gallery in collaboration with KREEMART, The Armory Show, New York (2016); Inferno curated by Raphael Castoriano, on the occasion of the Les Amis du Palais de Tokyo's dinner and the Tokyo Art Club, Paris (2015); Uno, performance live commissioned by Mehdi Brit, Espace Louis Vuitton, Paris (2015); La Pecora curated by Moataz Nasr, Something Else Off Biennale Cairo, Cairo, Egypt (2015); La Sacra Famiglia in collaboration with Le Toboggan, Dafna gallery, Museo Archeologico Napoli, MADRE, Alberta Pane Gallery, Naples, Italy (2015); Auguri, FIAC Art Fair Hors-les-Murs, Jardin des Plantes, Paris (2014) and La Pecora curated by Mehdi Brit, Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Nuit des Musées, Paris (2013).Her first monograph MEDITERRANEO (2019) presents a selection of works over the last ten years dedicated to the Mediterranean sea.
