Silverlens is pleased to participate in The Armory Show with a group presentation of works by James Clar, Chati Coronel, Nicole Coson, Mit Jai Inn, Arin Sunaryo, and Leo Valledor.
James Clar will show CCP Light (What I've Seen, What I've Shown You) (2023), an airy light work that recreates the silhouette of a light fixture from the Cultural Center of the Philippines, a leading arts & culture institution founded by the Marcos Family in 1969.
Chati Coronel makes her New York debut with Inner Constellation paintings, excerpts from her series of nine large-scale works depicting hourly scenes from sunset to sunrise. Inspired by Coronel's Buddhist practice, the Inner Constellation works are meant to guide the viewer's consciousness through incremental change from darkness to light.
Nicole Coson will unveil a new body of monoprint paintings, in which she uses her 1970s era etching press to create seemingly photographic imprints on raw canvases. Coson's presentation comes in anticipation of her solo exhibition at Silverlens New York opening March 2024.
Mit Jai Inn will showcase a kaleidoscopic scroll painting, a freestanding cylinder of canvas made structurally through multiple layers of homemade pigment applied with palette knives and fingers. Jai Inn's participation at the Armory precedes his New York debut solo exhibition at Silverlens New York opening November 2023.
Leading Indonesian artist Arin Sunaryo uses resin as a preservation agent along with natural materials like volcanic ash, sugar, and shrimp paste. He will exhibit works incorporating palm oil and palm fibers in subtle reference to deforestation and unsustainable palm oil harvest in Southeast Asia.
Filipino American modernist Leo Valledor will show a collection of late-career paintings from the 1980s. Valledor's presentation will open the same day as his landmark dual exhibition with Carlos Villa at Silverlens New York. It precedes his upcoming solo exhibition at Silverlens Manila opening July 2024.
